Protect Students and Equipment with High-Density Lab Shelving
Space on campus is always in high demand, and science lab storage is particularly challenging. Labs need to provide plenty of space for students and researchers to work, while also storing equipment and materials like fragile glassware and electronics, combustible fuel, and potentially hazardous chemicals.
KEEP LAB EQUIPMENT SAFE & ORGANIZED
Labs and academic buildings are key to not only attracting great students and faculty, but also providing students with an excellent learning experience. Laboratory storage systems need to keep students safe, protect expensive and potentially hazardous lab supplies and equipment, and keep everything organized and accessible.
Storage in science labs is particularly challenging because labs need to provide plenty of space for students and researchers to work, while also storing equipment and materials like fragile glassware and electronics, combustible fuel, and potentially hazardous chemicals.
Before staff or students enter the lab, provide Day Use Lockers near the entrance to ensure that food, drink, and other prohibited items are securely stored.

If your lab doesn’t have the luxury of a large storage room, a compact shelving system with sorter units end-caps can help provide quick access to frequently-used items with greater capacity in the lab shelving area. Spacesaver lab shelving systems move with the touch of a button for aisle access while doubling storage capacity. The soft-stop option keeps fragile equipment safe and accessible.
LAB SHELVING FOR CHEMICAL STORAGE
Chemical storage in science labs can be a hazard if the fumes and conditions aren’t handled correctly. Our lab shelving can be fitted with locking doors to promote safety and visibility, while louvered vents and HVAC integration improve ventilation. These cabinets can be included within Spacesaver high-density shelving systems to minimize your storage footprint and make more room for student workspaces.
EQUIPMENT & RESEARCH COLLECTION STORAGE CABINETS
Museum-quality preservation cabinets are great for storing any type of lab equipment, big or small, to protect your investment and keep equipment organized and accessible. Cabinets can be customized with interior accessories and can even be integrated with temperature and ventilation control to help preserve chemicals and other sensitive materials. Cabinets can be integrated into a high-density lab shelving system to increase storage capacity and free up space for work tables or other uses.

LAB CABINETS FOR STUDY COLLECTIONS
Protecting and storing valuable study aids at a college
Podiatry is a demanding discipline, and medical students must take years of coursework to become certified to practice. An important part of the curriculum is the hands-on study of real human bones in the anatomy lab, which allows students to gain a more complete understanding of the foot’s structure and function. This requires a vast amount of storage.
The Challenge
Insufficient Anatomy Lab Storage
When the anatomy department at this college of podiatry was relocated to a new, smaller space in the building, the professors needed to optimize storage of their study collection of human bones and other study aids. They had previously been storing the bones in boxes in a secure storeroom, but the system was cumbersome: professors and instructors had to move multiple boxes to get the one they wanted. The boxes and packing material also wasted space.
The Solution
Locking Steel Anatomy Lab Cabinets
The new anatomy area would be about 30% smaller than their previous space. Realizing they needed professional help to make the best use of the new area, they contacted Spacesaver. The consultant visited the college, assessed the study collection and other study aids, and talked with the professors and instructors about their work flows and desired outcomes.
He designed locking Spacesaver 4-Post “cabinets” for two separate areas in the anatomy department.
In the student lab, he designed 4-Post shelving units with locking glass-front frame doors. The shelving heights are adjustable and the doors promote visibility and security.
A secure storeroom would house the college’s valuable collection of human bones, and for this area he designed six tall units of Nantucket Trays fitted with solid steel doors. The museum-quality trays keep the study collection organized and accessible while eliminating the need for bulky boxes.
The Result
Secure Storage in Less Space
The Spacesaver solutions provide visually engaging storage and display in the student lab, as well as secure storage for the valuable study collection in the storeroom. Contact us today for assistance in making the most of your storage space.
